Magic Duel episodic art!
Also, Comic Fiesta has been a real blast! I manage to sell out all the Adventure Time doujins and for that I’m very grateful(And extremely happy to find out so many Adventure Time fans in my own country). :)

Hey, this is the first collaboration in a set with the very lovely Rose. The first is Twilight Sparkle, and she’s quite the looker! Rose did an excellent job with her layout, putting in a sense of trepidation and anxiety, yet determination in the eyes, pose, and demeanor of this student pony. Rose has her pencil work firmly entrenched in an animation mentality, promoting looseness and fluidity, dynamics and kinetics. My comic book background conflicts with this, and heavier lineweights and rendering tend to “weigh down” the drawing, as it were. With this in mind, in translating Rose’s holding lines, I tried to keep my own strokes very loose and organic. Rather than tightening on corners, which I like to do, I sort of let the lines “play where they lie.”
In the coloring, there was also many decisions to be made in regards to minimalism vs. pushing the envelope. To over-render Rose’s art would be to do it a severe disservice, so rather I kept my shadows in only the darkest areas and kept the contrast very low. The magic effect was built around a slightly silly/amateurish explosion of little sparks(les), telling the tale of a student in learning. But there’s a huge potential lurking underneath, just waiting to come out.
Hopefully you enjoyed this collaboration, and if you’d like to see more (and support Rose and I going to Bronycon), please purchase a print, and tell your likeminded friends as well! ‘Til next time…

and then the cat was out of the bag

THERE’S GONNA BE AN ENTIRE SET!?
