Why is it that every cool statistic extra for Tumblr wants “read and write” access to my account?
That is extremely unnerving. I always see something neat like the word bubble and think “I should do this!” Open it up and see a message that basically sounds like I’m signing my soul away. Then I’m like “NOPE!”
I really don’t want any third party program to have “write access” to my Tumblr. >.> Why do they want that? To put up Pepsi ads?
These third party extensions work by modifying your posts and/or parts of your tumblr page, which only you can do under normal circumstances (since only you have the write access required). You need to manually allow it those privileges for it to be able to do its job.
Note: This is also a very easy way to fall victim to phishing and other practices, so be sure you actually can trust the source where you get the extension from before installing them.
